I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Texas at Austin and completed my Master's and Doctorate degrees in clinical psychology at the University of Montana. My dissertation was on the topic of memory and clinical features in dissociation. During my graduate training, I worked at the university counseling center, served as a teaching assistant, and volunteered at Montana State Prison. I completed my clinical internship at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center here in Houston.
I accepted a position as a psychologist at the VA in 2000, where I worked in various clinics helping veterans and their families in individual and group sessions with numerous issues ranging from depression, anxiety, combat and other traumas, to grief and loss, alcohol and other substance abuse, relationship problems, stress and anger management, life and career changes, health and medical problems, and aging, just to name a few.
Since the VA, I have continued to work in PTSD research, have served as a clinical interviewer for the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, and have been a psychological examiner for disability evaluations. Besides my clinical roles, I have worked in research, supervised and trained psychology interns, and have taught at the university level. I've also been an invited guest lecturer for Baylor College of Medicine and have been a guest speaker on radio stations 88.7 KUHF and 90.1 KPFT in Houston. I have a number of presentations and publications and am currently a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the Houston Psychological Association (HPA), as well as the Hellenic Professional Society of Texas (HPST).
